Saturday 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th April - Park Run, various locations with several events in and around Bristol. 5k routes usually available. Visit the Park Run website to find one near you.


Monday 1st April - Shapwick Bunny Hop, nr Glastonbury. 7.5 miles multi-terrain race. Sign up at the Full On Sport website.


Monday 1st April - The Easter Bunny, Yeovil. A fast and flat 10k road race. PB potential!. Find out more at the Yeovil Town Road Running Club webste.


Thursday 4th April - The Dave Jones Prom Run Series, Weston-Super-Mare. Race 7/9. 5-mile race on the promenade. Visit the Weston Athletic Club website for full details.


Saturday 6th April - Bath Skyline (Night Race). Get your head torches ready for this one. 5k and 10k options available at this off road trail race with amazing views over Bath. Enter now at the Relish Running website.


Saturday 6th April - Bratton Hilly 11k, Wiltshire. A challenging, multi-terrain run starting in Bratton, near Westbury in Wiltshire. Organised by Redfish Events with full details available at  Entry Central.


Sunday 7th April - Bath Skyline (Day Race). No need for your head torch this time. 5k and 10k options available for this off road trail race with amazing views over Bath. There's also a kids 500m race. Enter now at the Relish Running website.


Sunday 7th April - NEW FOR 2024! The Bristol Brabazon Half Marathon & 10k, north Bristol. Brand new this year, it's a flat and fast course around the site of the Brabazon Arena in north Bristol. Visit the YPB Events website for all the details and entry.


Wednesday 10th April - YTRRC Summer 5k Series 1/6, Yeovil. A flat and fast race course with PB potential. Visit the Yeovil Town Road Running Club website for full details.


Thursday 11th April - Severn Bridge Twilight Race, Chepstow. A 5-mile race from the Welsh end of the bridge to the English end, then back again on the opposite side. This race is run on the paths on the bridge. There's a great finish in the underpass which feels more like a rave than running event! Visit the Rogue Runs website for all the details.


Saturday 13th April - The Maverick Adidas Terrex Original Mendips, Somerset. Three trail routes with stunning views available, 7k, 13k & 22k. Enter now at the  Maverick Race website.


Saturday 13th April - Bristol Track Club 5k race day, Odd Down Cycle Circuit, Bath. Elite level 5k racing with some super quick times. More info at their website.


Sunday 14th April - Devizes Half Marathon, Wiltshire. Described as 'undulating', this single-loop road race starts and finishes in central Devizes. Visit the  official website to enter.


Sunday 14th April - Frenchay 10k, Bristol. One of the oldest 10k races in the country, with the first one being run back in 1980. It's a traffic-free road race and every finisher will receive a Frenchay 10k Mug. Full details and entry here.


Sunday 14th April - The Kymin Dash, Monmouth (South Wales). A 7 mile trail run through the scenic Wye Valley. More details at the official website.


Sunday 14th April - The Butleigh 10k (south of Glastonbury). An off-road 10k and part of the  Somerset Series.


Sunday 14th April - Lightning Bolt 10k, Race 1, Chippenham. A fast and flat 10k run on country roads (I got my PB there!). Visit the DB Max website.

Sunday 21st April - Corsham 10k, Corsham (Wiltshire). A 10k road-race with a cheaper 'no frills' entry price available (no t-shirt, memento or ice cream). Full details at the Corsham Running Club website.


*Sunday 21st April - The London Marathon. Ok, so not local, but a good marker in the calendar. Plus, I'm running it this year!


Sunday 21st April - Horton Bull Run, South Gloucestershire. 7km of undulating country lanes. Visit the official website for full details.


Friday 26th April - Cardiff Summer Series, race 1/4. This is the one mile race, with each subsequent race increasing by one mile each. Visit the Cardiff Running Events website to enter.


Saturday 27th April - ULTRA - Butcombe Trail Ultra, Rowberrow, Somerset. A single-day 50 or 56 mile trail ultra through the Medip Hills. Visit the official website for more for details.


Saturday 27th April - Kolor Dash, Newport. 5k charity colour fun-run around Tredegar Park raising money for  St David's Hospice Care.


*Saturday 27th April - ULTRA - NEW FOR 2024! Eastnor Castle Backyard Ultra, Herefordshire. 8 hour, 12 hour and relay options available. Race on tarmac, starting a 4.167 mile lap every hour on the hour. Complete 8 hours and you will run 33 miles. Go for the full 12 hours and you'll get to 50 miles. *Sunday 28th April - Eastnor Mud Bath (3k, 6k, 10k), Herefordshire. Mud, hills and natural obstacles. Get involved at the  Relish Running website.


Sunday 28th April - Newport Marathon, Half & 10k, South Wales. This event has been expanded for 2024 with more race options available. A fast a flat course at all distances plus junior race options. Enter now at the official website.


Sunday 28th April - The Bluebell Blunder. An off-road 10k, just north of Chepstow in the Wye Valley. Visit the  Rogue Runs website.


Sunday April 28th - The Bristol Running Show. The third year of the show, held at the BAWA Centre in Filton. Free event but tickets are required. Visit the official website for details.


Sunday 28th April - Ashton 5k Series (race 2/3), Gloucestershire. Open to runners of all abilities and raced on closed roads in the pituresque Cotswold village of Ashton-under-Hill. Visit the Tewksbury Triathlon website for more info.

Friday 3rd May - Bannister Anniversary Mile, Cardiff. A one-mile race to commemorate Roger Bannister breaking the four minute mile barrier in 1954. Visit the Cardiff Running Events website for more details.


Saturday May 4th - ULTRA - The Great Stones Way Trail Ultra. 57 miles of the best Wiltshire landscape, including Stonehenge, Old Sarum, Avebury and finishing in the grounds of Salisbury Cathederal. Organised by Only Footprints Events.


Sunday 5th May - Cardiff 5k: Race for Victory. 5k road race around Whitchurch Village in Cardiff. Check the  official website for entry and some very impressive photos!


Tuesday 7th May - Stanley Stomp 5km Series (race 1/4). A fairly flat and fast course run on roads and paths on the edge of Chippenham. Visit the LPS Events website to enter.


Sunday 5th May - The Trowbridge "Superheroes & Fairy Tales" 5k. A flat road race in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. Full details at the  Stampede Sports website.


Sunday 5th May - Runaway Train, Shepton Mallet. Two trail routes available, 8.5 miles & 3 miles, taking in woods, valleys, tunnels and viaducts. Cider bar and Boxty Feast (Irish potato pancake) at the finish. Visit the  official website for entry.


Wednesday 8th May - YTRRC Summer 5k Series 2/6, Yeovil. A flat and fast race course with PB potential. Visit the Yeovil Town Road Running Club website for full details.


Saturday 11th May - Radyr Trail Races, Cardiff. Half and full marathon options available, but across some pretty tough terrain. There will be hills! Find out more at the  Ridge Runners website.


Sunday 12th May - The Scorpion Run, Forest of Dean. A 10-11k trail race offering beautiful views of the River Wye. And why 'scorpion'? Because the the final sting in the tail is a 1km hill climb to the finish! Full details at the YPB Event website.


Sunday 12th May - The Hullavington Half Marathon and 5k, Wiltshire. A road race on quiet country roads. Enter at the  Stampede Sports website.


Sunday 12th May - Stroud Trails, Gloucestershire. A challenging, multi-terrain race. Get more information at the I Am Outdoors website.


Tuesday 14th May - Rose Inn Series (race 1/4), Redwick, South Wales. A fast, flat, four mile road race. Visit the  Chepstow Harriers website for entry details.


Thursday 16th May - The Dave Jones Prom Run Series, Weston-Super-Mare. Race 9/9. 5-mile race on the promenade. Visit the Weston Athletic Club website for full details.


Friday 17th - 19th May - ULTRA - The Bridge 200, 100, 40, Chepstow. You'll have 55 hours to complete 50 laps of the Old Severn Bridge, covering 200 miles. 100 mile and 40 mile options also available. Another suffer-fest thought up by the team at Cockbain Events.


*Saturday 18th May - ULTRA - TEC Wye Valley, Monmouth. Ultra (34.8miles), marathon, half marathon & 13k route options available. Trail run through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Full details at the  Trail Events Co website.


Sunday 19th May - Great Run Bristol. A flat road race around central Bristol with thousands of people out supporting the runners. 10k and half marathon options. Enter now at the official website.


Sunday 19th May - Brecon Carreg Cariff Bay 10k, Cardiff. A flat and fast course around the historic Cardiff Bay. Find out more at the Run4Wales website.


Monday 20th May - The Bristol Severn. Just over 26 miles of quite flat terrain (the organisers describe it as having 'one little hill'). It starts just outside Stroud in Gloucestershire and finishes at Severn Beach on the outskirts of Bristol. Full details at the Ultra Running website.


*Wednesday 22nd May - The Town Tree Trail (just outside Yeovil). A very flat, off-road 10k around a nature reserve. Part of the  Somerset Series.


Wednesday 22nd May - Sunday 27th May - ULTRA - South Wales 200, Chepstow. 200 miles of hill terrain across South Wales. You have 120 hours/5 days to complete it. Visit the Wild Horse 200 website for full details.


Wednesday 22nd May - Lightning Bolt 10k, Race 2, Chippenham. A fast and flat 10k run on country roads (I got my PB there!). Visit the DB Max website.

Friday 24th May - GWR Towpath Series 1/4, Bristol. An evening,  four race series (3x10k, 1x5k in August) out and back along a towpath starting and ending close to Ashton Court. Visit the Great Western Runners website for details and entry.

Saturday 22nd June - ULTRA - The Breakheart Backyard Ultra, Dursley, Gloucestershire. You must run a 4.167 mile lap, on the hour every hour, until there is only one runner left standing. Sunday 7th July - The Quantock Beast (just outside Bridgewater). A 5.7mile trail loop with stunning scenery. Part of the Somerset Series.


Sunday 7th July - The Drop, Bath. One of the more unusual races! Choose your distance, 10 or 15 miles, get blindfolded and put on a bus. Then you get dropped, with no map, no tech and no watch. Can you find your way back? Visit the Run Able website for details.

Saturday 13th July - Avon Valley Relay, Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire. A 17-mile run that can be run in four stages as a relay, or by solo runners. Full details at the Avon Valley Runners website.


Wednesday 17th July - The Pawlett Plod (between Burnham & Bridgwater). A 10k trail run which usually has a post-race BBQ. Part of the Somerset Series with more details at the Burnham-on-Sea Harriers website.


Thursday 18th July - Purdown Pursuit, Bristol. 10k of parkland and woodland and some 'juicy hills' in Stapleton. Visit the Town and Country Harriers website for entry.


Saturday 20th July - Warrior Mud Run, Gloucester. Does what it says on the tin really. 8k/5k route options. Lots of mud a couple of water crossings. Bring a change of clothes and don't wear white trainers! More details at the Trimax Events website.


Sunday 21st July - Wye Valley Tunnel Run. A flat and largely smooth running surface. 500m & 2k colour run, plus 6k, 10k, half marathon and full marathon. Enter at the Relish Running website.

*Wednesday 7th August - The Haselbury Trail 10k, near Crewkerne (south west of Yeovil). A two-lap scenic cross-country run. There is also a one-lap option. Part of the Somerset Series.


Wednesday 7th August - Summer Sizzler 5k, Cardiff. A fast 'out and back' 5k race with BBQ waiting at the finish line. Visit the Cardiff Running Events website for more info.


Thursday 8th August - ULTRA - MTC Cotswold Ultra, Gloucestershire. 57 miles of mixed terrain. Visit the Ultra Running Ltd website.

*Sunday 11th August - NEW FOR 2024 - Wyedean Ultra. A beautiful route along the river Wye, on Offas Dyke and the Wye Valley Walk. It starts in Ross-on-Wye and finishes in Chepstow. Only 100 places available so be quick and visit the Rogue Runs website now.


*Sunday 11th August - Wyedean Relay. Run on the same route as the Ultra above, the Wyedean Relay is an off-road team event starting in Ross-on-Wye and finishing in Chepstow. Visit the Rogue Runs website.

Saturday 24 August - ULTRA - The Summer Green Man Ultra, Bristol. A 45 mile/72k off-road loop of Bristol. The event is self-navigation and must be completed within 12 hours. A 30 mile option is also available. The full details are available at the  official website.


Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th August - Cardiff Pentath-Run. Complete a marathon distance over two days, across five distances. A 5k, a 10k and a 4.5k cross country run on Saturday. Then a half marathon and a one miler on the Sunday. Surely a unique running event! Visit the Cardiff Running Events website for all the details.


Sunday 25th August - Severn Bridge 10k, Chepstow. A flat(ish) 10k race from one side of the bridge to the other and back again. This used to be a closed-road event with a chance to run over the bridge. Sadly the organisers have faced a number of challenges so can no longer close the bridge or offer a half marathon distance. Monday 26th August - The Baltonsborough 5 Mile, nr Glastonbury. A 5 mile road race around some Somerset country lanes. Part of the Somerset Series.


Saturday 31st August - ULTRA - Medip Marauder, Somerset. 50 & 30 mile options with 4,000-5,000 feet of elevation. The race starts in Frome and finishes on the beach close to Weston-Super-Mare. Visit the Albion Running website for all the details.


Saturday 31st August - ULTRA - TEC Mendip Hills, Blagdon, Bristol. Ultra (35 miles), Marathon (30 miles), Half (14 miles), 15k. Two Ultras in one really as the marathon is over 4 miles over the distance. A chance to take in some of the best Somerset hills, including Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. Saturday 31st August - ULTRA - The Berkeley Marathons, Gloucestershire. Yes, you may recognise the name from the event made famous on Netflix. But this is the UK version, although no less brutal. 130(ish) miles, 15,000 feet of elevation, 24 hour cut off. If you fancy it, get in quick as there is only 100 places available. Sunday 1st September - Run Cheltenham. Half, 10k and Community Mile options available. All races are run on closed roads and start and end at Cheltenham Race Course. Visit the official website for all the info and entry.


Sunday 1st September - Carnival Chase, Warminster, Wiltshire.  A family-friendly event with 1.2k, 3k and 10k multi-terrain routes available. A Redfish Events race, with full details at Entry Central.

Sunday 1st September - NEW FOR 2024 - Cirencester 10k, Gloucestershire. A closed-road race, starting and ending in the centre of Cirencester. Visit the Let's Do This website.


Thursday 5th September - Rowberrow Romp, Somerset. A 10k-ish race up and down the Mendip hills, tough climbs and likely some mud. Visit the Town and Country Harriers (TACH) website for more info.


*Saturday 7th September (date TBC) - BareCamp Naked 5k/10k, nr Langport, Somerset. Yes, a naked race. It takes place at BareCamp, a week long naturist event at Thorney Lakes. You must pre-book your tickets at the Bare West Events website.


*Sunday 8th September - Blackdown Hills Trail Run, 10k & Half, Taunton. Runners are treated to views across Somerset, and some hills! Organised by Prosper Events.

Sunday 15th September - Chippenham Half Marathon, Wiltshire. A fast and flat course with roads closed around the centre of Chippenham. Enter now at the official website.

Sunday 13th October - Burnham Half Marathon, Burnham-on-Sea. A flat road race with personal best potential! Part of the Somerset Series.


Sunday 13th October - Lightning Bolt 10k, Race 5, Chippenham. A fast and flat 10k run on country roads (I got my PB there!). Visit the DB Max website.


Sunday 13th October - Bristol Epic 10k Trail, Ashton Court. Off-road 10k around the beautiful setting of Ashton Court. If you feel like really pushing yourself you can opt for the Ruck Run. Same route, but wearing an 8kg or 12kg weighted vest. Visit the Superhuman Sports website for all the info.


Sunday 20th October - NEW FOR 2024 - Bath & Bristol Railway Races. Someone has finally taken advantage of the amazing Bristol-Bath cycle path to put on a range of distance races. 10k, Half, 25k, Marathon & 50k distances all available. Visit the Relish Running website to sign up.

Sunday 17th November - Double Gloucester 5-6 Miles, Gloucestershire. A chance to run up the famous cheese-rolling hill. Find out more at the YPB Events website.


Sunday 17th November - Bath Hilly Half and 'Ultra' 10k, Bath Race Course. A trail run with plenty of hills. One lap will see you complete the 'Ultra' 10k (Ultra because it's actually 12.45km) and two laps will get you through the half. Full details at the official website.


Saturday 23rd November - Masters 5000, Weston-Super-Mare. A 5k evening race on Weston Promenade. Over 35s only. Full details at the official website.


Sunday 24th November - The Brent Knoll, Burnham-on-Sea. 6 miles out and back over Brent Knoll. It is steep. Very steep. Part of the Somerset Series.


Sunday 24th November - The AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon, Edington. A chip-timed road race around villages in west Wiltshire. Full details at the  Avon Valley Runners website.


Sunday 24th November - The Chepstow 365, Chepstow. A 6 mile(ish) road and trail run starting at Chepstow Castle and taking in 365 steps from Giants Cave for amazing views of the Wye Valley. Organisers YPB Events describe it as 'not for the feint hearted'. Entry via the  official website.

Saturday 28th, Sunday 29th, Monday 30th December - Seven Sins & Immortal Sinners, Gloucestershire, nr Lydney.  Multiple races across multiple days. The Seven Sins takes place on all three days and is 7 miles. The Immortal is 14 miles. Both will be muddy and hilly! Entry and info here.
